The Cultural Diplomacy and Development Foundation (CDDF) was honored to participate in the “Become a Peacemaker” Interfaith Prayer Luncheon, a distinguished gathering of faith leaders, diplomats, community representatives, and peace advocates committed to advancing dialogue, reconciliation, and global cooperation.
Representing CDDF, Leyla Mammadli, Founder and Executive Director, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the transformative power of cultural diplomacy, interfaith engagement, and education in fostering sustainable peace.
Originally from Azerbaijan, Ms. Mammadli shared her personal experience of witnessing two wars during her lifetime and reflected on how those experiences inspired her lifelong commitment to peacebuilding, dialogue, and international cooperation.
In her remarks, she expressed gratitude for the recent peace agreement signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington, D.C., describing it as a historic milestone and a powerful symbol of hope.
“As someone from Azerbaijan who has witnessed two wars, I thank God that Azerbaijan and Armenia have signed a historic peace agreement here in Washington, D.C. This moment gives hope to millions of people who have long prayed for peace. I sincerely hope this agreement marks the beginning of a lasting and durable peace built on dialogue, mutual respect, and cooperation for generations to come.”
Ms. Mammadli also highlighted Azerbaijan’s longstanding tradition of religious coexistence, where Muslims, Christians, and Jews have lived together in mutual respect for centuries. She emphasized that peace is achieved not by eliminating differences, but by embracing diversity through dialogue, understanding, and shared humanity.
The event reaffirmed the importance of interfaith cooperation and people-to-people diplomacy in addressing today’s global challenges. Participants were encouraged to become active peacemakers within their families, communities, and nations.
